Janet Mills was born and raised in rural Maine, the granddaughter of potato farmers from Aroostook County and the daughter of a World War II veteran and a public school teacher. She has served Maine as District Attorney, Attorney General, and Governor, becoming the first woman to hold each of these positions. During her career, she has worked on issues including expanding health care, fully funding education, and strengthening the economy. Mills married the late Stan Kuklinski and helped raise his five daughters while maintaining her full-time career as a District Attorney in Farmington. Her Administration has focused on health care, housing, education, child care, broadband, workforce development, and renewable energy, among other issues.
